Since 9/11 it has become evident to characterize the current age as an age of terror. It has become commonplace to say that we are living in a time of terror. This condition is taken so much for granted that it sometimes becomes the new, unquestioned context of contemporary philosophy. Yet, such a vital connection between time and terror has intrinsically philosophical import, and the more so for contemporary thinkers who expect philosophy to “comprehend its own time in thought”. So, one essential question remains to be answered: what is a time of terror? What makes the times change in such a way that they become times of terror? What does it mean, philosophically, to say that we are living in an age of terror?
